You must go to Dragonia to
try to stop Darksol from
taking the manual!
Bleu cannot do it on his own!

When you defeat Durahan, he will say :

Nova:

stop Kane before he finds the
Manual of the Seal. Onward!

White dragon in the house accessable only by the tunnel :

He then go away from you. When you talk to him again, he will say :
I don't want to fight, OK?
Just go away!

や　やめてくれよ・・・
ぼくは　戦う気なんかないんだ
あっちへ　行ってくれよ！

Then a red child appar and say :
Bleu! This person is our
friend. He's here to help!
Stop shaking, you baby!

バリュウ！　なにをいってるの！
この人は　味方よ！
あなたは　神竜なんでしょ！
こんなことで　ふるえてただけ？
・・・なんて　なさけないの！

Bleu then say :
Oh, Karin, you are so mean!

カリン　ひ　ひどいよ・・・

He then go away, next to a treasure chest.

If you talk to Bleu again, he will say :
Just leave me alone!

ぼくのことは　ほっといてくれよ・・・

If you talk to Karin, she will say :
I was worried about Bleu, so
I followed you. I really
think he's hopeless!
I am dissapointed in
you, Bleu!

バリュウのことが気になって
あなたのことを　おってきたの
それなのに　もう・・・
もう　バリュウなんて大キライ！


She then leave. Then, you hear :
Help! Help! Bleu! Max!

きゃあ！

Bleu then say :
That's Karin's voice!

あ！　カリンのこえだ！

He then rush outside, pushing Max out of the way.

When you find back Bleu, a Rune Knight is in front of him and Karin is with him.
The knight say :
Well, dragon, if you want to
save this girl, open that
shrine door!

いくじなしのドラゴンが
こんなところに　かくれていたのか
このむすめのいのちが　おしくば
あの神殿の　とびらをあけるのだ

Karin then say :
Bleu! Don't listen to him!
Remember that you're a Sacred
Dragon!

バリュウ　いいなりになってはダメ！
私はいいから　神竜のほこりを
まもりなさい！

Bleu :
Karin! No!

カリン！

He then go in front of the knight. The knight then say :
What are you going to do
about it, crybaby dragon?

できそこないのドラゴンが
なんのつもりだ！

The game then say :
Bleu spews fire!

バリュウのこうげき！
バリュウ　かえんをはいた！

The screen flash in red and the knight say :
Arrggggh!

うわーっ！

He then dissapear.

When you talk to Bleu, he will say :
I'm not very confident yet,
but I'll try my best!

あんまり　じしんはないけれど
ボクも戦ってみるよ　カリンみたいに
ゆうきを出すよ！

(Bleu joins the
Shining Force!)

「バリュウが　なかまになった！」

I'll be at headquarters.

それじゃ　ボクは　ほんじんに行くよ
がんばって戦うからね！

Bleu then leave.

Karin then say :
I'll return to Rudo. I have
to tell everybody that Bleu
found his courage!

私はルドルむらに　かえります
バリュウがりっぱになったって
みんなに教えなきゃ！

Karin then leave.

As you come out, you'll meet Kane.
If you talk to him, he will say :
Remember me, Max?
Kane of Runefaust.
Ready for your last fight?
Go back to your headquarters
and get ready. Then you'll
meet your doom!

ひさしぶりだな　マックス・・・
おぼえているか　おれのことを？
ルーンファウストのカインだ
おまえはパオでエリオット様を
たおしたそうだな・・・よくぞ
そこまで　うでをあげた・・・
まずは　ほんじんにもどるがいい

しょうめんから　戦ってやる

After having talked to Kane, when you com out of headquarters, a battle will start.

Battle 19 - Dragonia :

Kane :
Ha! I knew you couldn't hide
in there forever! Come on
out, little hero!

ふん　しょうじきにもどってくるとは
おろかなやつ・・・このカインに
かてると　おもったのか？

Nova :
Max, be careful.
Remember that Kane killed
Varios!

マックス殿　お気をつけください
カインは　バリオス様をもたおした騎士
その力　あなどれませぬぞ

When you defeat Kane, he will say :
Arrgh! My mask
is...breaking!

グオオオオオオォォォォ！
・・・・・・
・・・・・・
く　くるしい・・・
かめんが・・・かめんが　われる！

The screen flash in blue and then a unmasked Kane say :
Wh...where am I? I
remember now. Darksol masked
my face to control me....

おれは　いままで　なにを・・・？
・・うう　そうか　おもい出したぞ
おれはダークソルにかめんをつけられ
ずっと　あやつられていた・・・
そして　ヤツのてさきにされ・・・
おとうとのおまえとまで戦うとは・・・
お　おれは　なんということを！

Kane dissapear, then Nova say :
It seems that Darksol is
behind all the evil afoot.
Stop him and it all ends.
In any case, let's take
another look at this village.
Check the shrine again....

・・・マックス殿　いまのカインの
ことばはいったい・・・？
マックス殿のことを「おとうと」と
いっておりましたが・・・ううむ・・・
ともかく　もういちど
この国をしらべてみましょう
どうも　あの神殿が気になります・・・

After you check the shrine's door again, Kane will be there.
If you talk to him, he will say :
Please, Max, come
with me to the door. We
must stop Darksol at any cost.
I want revenge for what he
has done to me. We must
keep that manual from him!

たのむ！　おれにチャンスをくれ
おれを　おとしいれたダークソルを
たおすための　じかんがほしい
ヤツを　たおすことができたら
おれは　どうなってもかまわない
いままでの　つみをつぐなおう
そのまえに　やることがある
ひでんのしょを　まもらなければ・・・
たのむ　とびらのまえまできてくれ！

Both Max and Kane comes to the door and open it. Then you hear :
(Two heroes. I have waited
long for such as you! )

「ふたりのえいゆうよ！
おまえたちを　まっていたぞ！」

Kane then go forward and leave.

A bit forward, you find Kane in front of a treasure chest.
But Darksol appear between him and the treasure.
Darksol say :
Ah, Kane. Feeling more like
yourself now, are you?

ふうじられていた　きおくを
とりもどしたのだな・・・カインよ

Kane :
This is the end, Darksol!
Max, get out now!
You'll only be destroyed
if you stay!

しまった！　ダークソルのワナか？
まずいっ　マックスにげろ！
・・そうか　きおくがないのか・・・
きいてくれ！　ヤツには　まほうが
デーモンブレスがあるんだ！
おれたちは　かつてあれをくらって
やられたんだ・・・
いまうければ　おなじけっかになる
ここは　おれにまかせて　にげるんだ

Darksol :

There's a white flash and then Kane say :
Go, Max, run!
I'll deal with Darksol!

マックス！　おまえはじゃまだ！
さらば・・・我がおとうとよ！

Kane push you out of the room and go back him.
Then you hear a loud noise.

Back at Rudo :

Boy blocking the town's entrance :
Wait! Don't leave yet, Karin
wants to talk to you.

だめだよ　むらから出ちゃ！
たいせつなはなしが　あるって
クリンがいってたぜ

Boy at the southeast of town :
I sure hope the grownups come
back soon!

バリュウが旅に出るなら
大人たちを　ゆるしてやろうかな
子どもだけって　たいへんだしね・・・

Girl near the chicken :
Thanks for helping Bleu. He
needed a hero!

I don't want to be too rude, but I'm really glad OP wasn't around to translate this game back in the day. There may be some name inaccuracies within the text, and sure those can and should be fixed. However... are you even a native English speaker?

The official translation flows more smoothly. You're going for a literal Japanese translation which introduces very awkward grammatical structure.

There's a big difference, between the retranslation, and the official translation. For one, this is just a translation to illustrate the major differences between the 'ofiicial' translation, and the actual, more literal translation. There are actually a great many differences between the two.

Obviously if a project were to be made out of reprogramming the game with the updated translation, there would be editing done to make it flow, as was done with SFIII scenarios 2 and 3.

Also, no, the OP's first language is not English. I don't believe Japanese is his first language either, which actually garners more respect from me at least. Japanese, and English, are both very difficult languages for non-speakers to learn. So cut the guy some slack, we aren't all perfect.

Just because something is the 'official' translation, doesn't mean it's the right translation. I can handle a bit of awkward grammar if it mean I'm going to get the true story. Just be thankful that someone's taking it on, and stop complaining.

I don't think that's an excuse for the poor grammar. Sure, we should be grateful he's translated so we know the entire story. However, I think there should be others who proofread it for grammar that's closer to standard English.

Again, it's not an actual forum project. Not to mention, since there are holes in the translation, it would take other people who have enough knowledge of Japanese to do so. As those aren't entirely all that common, especially with how slow the forums have been, be happy with what you can get for the time being. if it's taken on as a project, then it will be remedied as I said before.

Grammar isn't easy, especially in English, let alone adapting the grammar from one language to another, between two languages where the sentence structure is completely backwards. Add onto this that neither language is his home language to begin with - if your roles were reversed, I doubt you'd be perfect either. If you know Japanese, then you go through and do it better. If you don't then stop ripping on the people that are at least generous enough to do what they can. Just appreciate what these people are taking the time to do for everyone, for free and in their own time, don't. Either do something constructive to help, or keep your tactless comments to yourself.

You then see a white flash. Darksol then say :

I call upon the Darkness to

able to reseal Dark Dragon
if Darksol frees him.
Follow Adam. He will lead
you to where you can create
the Chaos Breaker.

through. The castle is down
this path.

Left guard to the southwest of town, after talking to Mahato :
Take great care. You're our
only hope to be rid of
Darksol.

マックス様　お気をつけてください！

Inside the west castle, you'll meet Darksol, who will say :
You again, Max? How
unfortunate for you!

会うのは　これでなんどめかな？
なんだかおまえが　ともだちのように
おもえてきたよ　マックス！

He go back a bit and say :
Now I must be off to summon
Dark Dragon. But don't worry.
Someone is waiting for you.

だが　我らのゆうじょうもここまでだ
いそがしくなってきたのでな
あいてをするヒマがなくなったのだ
我が黒き竜・・・うみのそこで
１０００ねん　ねむりつづけた
でんせつのダークドラゴンが
我がてによって　めざめる！
ワハハハハハ・・・
ところで　カインくんはげんきかね？

Max go in front of him. Darksol then say :
King Ramladu will serve my
purposes one last time, then
I will have no need for him!

そうか　あいつは　しんだのか
なかなか　やくにたってくれたが
まあ　そのていどのおとこだったな

After a short pause, he add :
I must be going. Do enjoy
your meeting with Ramladu.
Dark Dragon arises soon!

おっと　ながばなしになってしまった
これで　しつれいする
古えの城に行かねばならぬのだよ
ダークドラゴンのふっかつには
もうすこし　ぎしきだひつよう
なのでな・・・
おってきたければ　きてもいい
だが　このさき　我がしゅくん・・・
フッ！　こうていラムラドゥが
おまえの　あいてをする・・・
じごくが　見られるぞ・・・
では　さらば　なごりおしいが・・・
我がとも　マックスよ！

Battle 26 - Runefaust Castle :

A man in armor will say :
Long have I waited for
this moment, Max!
Prepare to meet your death.

まちかねたぞ　ガーディアナの
ざんとうどもめ！
きさまらを　ここからいっぽたりとも
さきに行かせるわけには　いかん！！
黒き竜が　よみがえるまで
ルーンファウストのせいえいぶたいが
おまえたちの　あいてをしてやろう！

After you win the battle, the man will say :
Is that the best you can do?
Well, meet my robots,
weaklings!

ふはははは・・・
それで　かったつもりだろうが
そうはいかんぞ！！
ほんとうの　わしの力を
じっくりと　味わうがいい！
いでよ！　我が　きかいへいたちよ！

When you defeat Ramladu, he will say :
I am dying...but my mind is
once more my own. Darksol
was controlling me.
You must stop Darksol!
If he freeds Dark Dragon,
all of Rune is doomed.
He has gone to the gate,
to summon the castle from the
depths of the sea. Go!

・・・・・
・・・・・
・・・うう・・う・・・
わしはルーンファウストのこうてい
アーク・レイ・ラムラドゥじゃ
きいてくれ　マックス！
わしも　あのダークソルに
あやつられていたのだ！
黒き竜ふっかつ！　そのためにヤツは
わしと　わしの国をりようし
おのれのやぼうを　はたそうとした
城のいりぐちに　古えのもんにぬける
ひみつの　かいだんがある・・・
ヤツはすでに　古えの城のなかだ
わ　わしのことは　かまわず　すぐに
あとを・・・　おうのだ・・・・

Ramladu then dissapear and Nova say :
Max! Darksol has
already entered the Castle of
the Ancients. You must hurry!
I found a secret passage
to the gate. It is in the
entry hall of this castle.
Return to town and make
your final preparations. Then
take the passage.

マックス殿！
ダークソルめは　すでに
古えの城にはいったようですな・・・
黒き竜を　めざめさせるまえに
なんとしても　ヤツをたおさねば！

Back at Runefaust :

Rune Knight inside the castle courtyard :
You made it? You've fought
through the castle? But keep
going, for Darksol awaits!

なんと　ルーンファウスト城を
とっぱしたというのか！
だが　ゆだんはきんもつだ
黒き竜は　もうめざめているかも・・・

Mahato :
Max! You have
defeated King Ramladu, but
a far greater task awaits.
Darksol has sealed the Gate
of the Ancients behind him,
but there is another way....
Use the Chaos Breaker at the
westernmost point of the
coast. There's a legend....
The Chaos Breaker can raise
the Castle of the Ancients
out of the depths of the sea.
The gate will then open.

そうか　ラムラドゥ様をたおしたのか
・・・しかたあるまいな
それより　いまはダークソルだ！
・・・なに！　古えのもんを
とじられてしまったというのか？
・・・うーむいやまてよ
まだ　ほうほうはある！
この国の　にしにあるみさきで
カオスブレイカーをつかうのだ！
でんせつによれば　その　剣には
古えの城をつかさどる　力があるとか
・・・なにかがおこるに　ちがいない

Battle 28 - Colossus battle :

Nova will say :
At last, Max! The
Castle of the Ancients. The
end is near, for good or ill!

おお　これが　古えの城！
とうとう　たどりつきましたな・・

A creature then say :
None shall pass Colossus,
the eternal sentinel!
Leave now!

シュー・・　セイブツハンノウアリ
シュー　・・コードショウゴウ・・
シュー　・・ガイトウナシ・・
シュー・・　エイヘイニ・・シレイス
・・シンニュウ者ヲ　ハイジョセヨ！

It then multiply into three creatures.
Then Nova say :
Colossus! I've heard of it
in legends! Max!
They are attacking!

あれは　でんせつにきくコロッサス！
ワワワ！　なにがどうしたのか？
敵が！　敵が　おそってきますぞ

When you defeat the middle Colossus, it will say :
Fools...Dark Dragon...will
come...to destroy you....

シュー・・シュー・・シュー・・・・
・・・・・

Colossus dissapear and Nova then say :
You've destroyed Colossus!
But where is Darksol?

ついにコロッサスをたおしましたぞ！
・・・むむ　あれは！

The statue from where Colossus appeared crumble, opening a way.
Then, Nova will say :
Use the staircase,
Max.
Darksol must be up there!

おお！　コロッサスのうしろに
かいだんが・・・
マックス殿　あそこをとおれば
おくにいけますぞ！

Battle 29 - Darksol :

A bit further, you find Darksol saying :
Dark Dragon! Awake from your
long sleep! The time has come
for you to reclaim this land!

黒き竜・・・ダークドラゴンよ！
ながきねむりから　めざめるのだ！
すべての力を　ときはなて！
そのきばで　人々のきぼうを
そのつめで　人々のゆめを
きりさくがいい！　くらうがいい！

The dragon picture on the red carpet flash a bit but it stop.
Darksol then say :
Awaken, Dark Dragon!
Something is wrong....

どうしたのだ　ダークドラゴンよ！
なぜ！　なぜめざめぬのか！
なにがたりないというのだ・・・
いったい　なにが・・・ん？

Darksol then turn back and say :
Max! Blast!
You have meddled for the last
time! Kill them, my servants!

き　きさまら　どうやって
この城にはいった！？
なんということだ　・・・そうか！
マックス！　そんなにしにたいか？
ならば　のぞみをかなえてやろう
ゆけ！　我がしもべたちよ！！

Nova then say :
Max! You must stop
Darksol before he completes
his foul ceremony! Attack!

マックス殿
ダークソルの力は　はかりしれません
くれぐれも　お気つけください！

When you defeat Darksol, he will say :
Dark Dragon! With my dying
breath...I summon you....
Arise, Dark Dragon!

・・・まだ　まけたわけではないぞ
私は　まけはしない・・・
おお　ダークラゴンよ
どこだ　どこなんだ・・・
私の・・私のねがいを　ききとどけよ

There are blue flashes, then Dark sol say :
Yes! At last, you are
awakening!
I offer myself to you, Dark
Dragon! Use my power to help
you cast off your bonds.

おお！　そこか　そこにいたのか！
いってくれ　さあ　なにがたらん！
・・・そうか　そうだったのか
・・・ならば　くれてやろう！
この私が　いけにえとなろうぞ！

Darksol then dissapear and reappear on the middle of the red carpet, saying :
You are free once more! Let
all of Rune tremble! I die
fulfilled! Cringe fools!

ワッハッハッハ・・・・・・・
よみがえれ！　ダークドラゴンよ！

Darksol then dissappear and Dark Dragon is released from the carpet.

Battle 30 - Dark Dragon

When you defeat Dark Dragon, it will say :
Nooooo! These puny creatures
cannot defeat the Lord of
Darkness!

グワオー　グオオオオオォォォォ！
コ　コノヤミノ王ガ
キサマラゴトキノ・・・

Never! I will not be banished
again! The Powers of Darkness
will sustain me!

ダガ　我ハ　マケン
キズツイタカラダヲ　イヤシ
チジョウヲ　ヤミデ　オオッテクレル

There's a white flash, then Nova say :
Dark Dragon still lives!
Perhaps we cannot kill him!
There must be a way....

むむっ　ヤツはふじみか！
たおしても　またすぐに
ふっかつしてくるというのか！？

Max! Dark Dragon
must be sealed away once
again. And only you can do it!

・・・　しかしヤツは
かつて　古代人にふういんされている

Use the Chaos Breaker! Drive
it through Dark Dragon!

ダークドラゴン・・・　悪のカオスを
ふういんするもの・・・　それは
・・・　カオスブレイカー！

Dark Dragon:
Fools! Nothing you do can
stop me! I am Dark Dragon,
Darkness incarnate!

ヨ・・　ヨセェ！　ヤメロォ！！

Nova:
Max! Stab him with
the Chaos Breaker!

マックス殿！　ヤツのひたいに
カオスブレイカーをつきさのです！

Max then plunge the Chaos Breaker into the remnants of
Dark Dragon's middle head. Then, the ground start to shake.
Dark Dragon is sealed back into the red carpet.

Then, the place start to shake again and Nova say :
Max! The Castle of the
Ancients is sinking! Let's
get out of here!

マックス殿！
古えの城が　しずみはじめましたぞ！
はやく！　はやく　だっしゅつを！

And the game say :
But Max cannot move!

「しかし　マックスのからだは
うごかない！」

Nova:
Max is somehow bound
to the Chaos Breaker!

どうなされました　マックス殿！？
なんですと！　カオスブレイカーから
てが　はなれないですと！？

The screen start to shake more and more.

Nova:
Max! Break free! We
won't leave without you!

ええいっ　なんとかなりませぬか！
はやく　だっしゅつせねば・・・！

Max:
I can't get free, but you
won't die with me!

・・・　りターン！！

The screen becomes white.
Then the Shining force appear to the west of Runefaust.

Mae:
Max used his Egress
magic to save us, but
where is Max?

いまのは　リターンのまほう・・
そんな　マックス・・・
マックスは　どうしたの！？

Lowe:
That spell's supposed to
get us all out. Why isn't
Max here? Why, Nova?

リターンのまほうは　なかまをぜんぶ
町に　おくりとどけてくれるはず・・・
なんでマックスが　いないんだ？

Nova:
I have no answers for you.
Perhaps a great hero is
needed to guard the seal.
Perhaps he must
stand as an eternal vigil to
prevent Dark Dragon's return.

もしや　カオスブレイカーの力が
マックス殿をはなさず　古えの城の
なかに　とりのこされたのでは・・・

Lowe:
But why did it have
to be Max? Any of us
would have taken his place....

そっ　そんなバカな！
それがほんとなら　マックスは
古えの城といっしょに・・・

Mae turn to the right, toward Lowe and Nova, saying :
I won't believe it!
Max will come back,
I know it!

いやーっ！　うそよそんなこと・・・

Then she turn toward the north and say :
Perhaps Max will still
come out. Wait, look at
the castle!

ロウ！　ノーバ！　なんとかいって！
マックスは　生きてるって！

You see the castle sinking back into the sea.

Lowe:
No! It's gone...the castle...
and Max with it....

しずんじまった・・
もう　なんにも見えない・・・

Everyone look toward the west, where the castle was.

Lowe:
That's it. He didn't escape.
He's gone....

メイ　だいじょうぶさ　やつは
マックスは　きっと生きてる！

Mae turn toward the south and say :
I won't believe it....

・・・

Then Nova turn toward the south and say :
Nova:
Max has saved all of
Rune. His sacrifice will be
remembered forever.
And now, friends, it is
time for us to begin the long
journey home....

・・・　もどりましょう・・
我々の国　ガーディアナへ・・

Mae turn toward the west and say :
I won't believe it....

・・・

She go in front of the water and say :
Max!

マックスーっ！

Then, you see the girl from the beginning, reading the story book, saying :
Swallowed by the murky brine,
the Castle of the Ancients
was lost forevermore.

そして　神々のいさんも
うみのもくずと　きえてしまった

The battle over and Rune
saved, the warriors of the
Shining Force returned home.

せかいを　はめつからすくった
シャイニング・フォースのなかまは
それぞれの国に　かえっていった

Led by Mae, Guardiana was
rebuilt and Anri inherited
the throne.

ガーディアナ国のさいけんも
メイをちゅうしんに　行われ
アンリが　王のこうけい者となった

As for Max, he is
believed to have perished at
sea along with Dark Dragon.

そのご　マックスのしょうそくを
しるものはなく　黒き竜とともに
うみにしずんだといわれている・・・

Then the girl look at us and say :
And that is the official
ending. But you and I know
differently, don't we?

・・・ごくろうさま
マックスの力で　でんせつは
かわらずにすんだみたいよ

Somewhere, evil stirs in a
land that has need of a
hero.

おじいちゃんは　またどこかで
悪しき人々が　うごきはじめたって
いま　出かけて行っちゃたの

And I know you'll be up to
the challenge, Max!

またこのつぎ　きてくれって
かってなことを　いってたよ

Well, goodbye for now. I have
a feeling I'll be seeing you
again.

それじゃ　さようなら・・
またあそびにきてくれたらうれしいな

Then man turn back, showing he's Max.

I've got a question though: anyone knows the difference between 'gods' and 'ancients'?

I think until coming to Prompt, the game basicaly spoke of 'the gods'. But then, in Prompt, there are lots of references about 'ancients' and 'ancient civilization'.
Were 'gods' and 'ancients' the same? Or not? And if not, what are the differences between them?
